I agree wholeheartedly. That’s part of why I wanted Battle.net or another fighting game staple of the ‘90s and aughts to be on the lists, because just as you note, RTS games and E-Sports ARE an integral part of contemporary gaming and they’ve been here in the foreground for two decades now.

Thanks! Off the top of my head, I’d go with the ‘90s, since both times I’ve done lists involving it were the hardest experience I’ve had just picking a handful of favorites, and the innovation itself would be the popularization of the CD-ROM. Yeah, technically they’d been around for a decade earlier, and even in Dec. 1

/cheer /cheer to the glories of Elite, Prince of Persia, and Battle Chess. I unfortunately didn’t play Elite at the time of its initial release. My equivalent for that was the Steve Jackson inspired Autoduel from Origin Systems in 1985. And I tended to play more 688 Attack Sub than F/A-18 Interceptor back in the day.

Oo, I’ve heard good things about Astrobot. I’d get VR, but I’m extremely worried about spending a ton of money and just getting immediate motion sickness. 99% of first person games don’t work for me at all because of that. So I just assume VR will be the same case unless the field of view turns out to be fantastic.

/comfort on Eye of the Beholder. It’s a classic, but yeah, especially if you’re talking console ports and needing to hand draw maps in a 2020 world, it’s a love it or leave it situation. Totally understandable to move on.

Thank you. And yep yep, I definitely wouldn’t want the rest of gaming to be like Shenmue III. It’s just... much akin with The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery, we have the other 99.9% of the games out there to put out goal oriented products and stay fixated on progression and immediate player validation. And

Yep yep, I definitely concur. Gaming sites can’t all point to the same 3-4 titles and go, “there’s this year in a nutshell,” so the focus seems to be instead, “transition year before the new generation sparks off in 2020.” Their loss. Me, I’m super happy to call this the year we got TWO distinct taxi cab confessional

Have fun with Bubble Bobble! Very much a 2 player NES classic in all respects.

Yeah, agreed. The weakest part about season 1 are the first couple of episodes, but once it gets the ball running, it definitely becomes solidly entertaining. I hope they get to do a season 2 with better writing now that it can focus on JUST the key players interacting with each other. Because the performances, the

If there’s one word for me that sums up 2019 gaming in a nutshell, it’s variety. And I’ve looked at my top ten list in the past month and consistently realized, “wow, I can probably only wholeheartedly recommend 2-3 of these games to anyone. A lot of this stuff could run super hot OR cold depending upon what people

I hope you have a great time with it! Note that its weakest element is that, since you’re using a search engine of sorts to sift through dozens of clips for information on this guy and his life over the course of a few years, you can frequently stumble into one side of a 5 minute conversation where one person’s just

/cheer /cheer! That’s a splendid selection of 2019 classics. Though something feels conspicuously absent above... hmm... can’t quite place my finger on it...
