hahaha and /comfort on that Randal’s Monday hint system. “But if we spent time outlining how to really solve these puzzles, we’d have less space for references and gags!”
Wowza, that does sound bad. Worse than, say, Police Quest: Open Season and Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust? That is pretty darn terrible.
She DOES talk a lot about killing a bunch of super powerful people, but they’re technically not gods. Technically.
/cheer /cheer! No argument from me as to FFXIII’s soundtrack. As you say, the quality of the score for that ENTIRE trilogy is astounding. I may not enjoy the storytelling for FFXIII, but Lightning’s a great female protagonist, and the music for her journey is extraordinary, no question.
Droid Announcer on Nar Shaddaa: Hello, and welcome to the show! REMAIN INDOORS! Which Sith Lord do you believe was most prophetic of THE EVENT©. WARNING, do NOT think of the EVENT. Just imagine the power and greatness of the Sith Lords... and REMAIN INDOORS!
One of the things I really love about the Imperial Agent storyline is how realistically it depicts the utter insanity the IA squads have to tolerate whenever a Sith Lord is around. And we think regional directors/managers are bad! “Sorry, Darth Jadus doesn’t like this guy. He has to die now. Yeah, I know that guy was…
Yeah, it’s a real shame about Actraiser 2. I think EVERYONE who loves the original especially appreciates its simulation elements. So crafting a sequel that forgoes all that is rather odd, indeed. Even Arino from GameCenter CX was enchanted by those sections and had to be reminded to make jokes and not just enjoy the…
Storywise Judgment definitely picks up the pace following Chapter 4.
Yep yep agreed, it’s both awesome and weird to think designers have been essentially tackling the same set of fundamental design issues in world building for over 20 years, just in relatively different scales of funding, team size, and development scope. Like Dark Souls unto the original Castlevania and beyond.
Have fun with StarTropics! Note that there’s some Meryl’s Frequency level antics ala Metal Gear Solid stymi-ing early game progression which you might have to look up if you don’t possess the physical documentation for the game and/or an equivalent pdf. And /cheer to your love of Rocket Belt, indeed the best of the Pil…
Salutations~!
Thanks for reading them! And /comfort on every Kinja-pocalypse centric. It’s a real pain trying to comment in this template. Especially refreshing a million times when the comment sections just plain refuses to load. But everyone’s still doing their best to keep this stellar gameological conversation going each week,…
Congrats on completing Loom! Good call on the strong parallels between it and the Infocom Enchanter trilogy that came before it. And yeah, I distinctly remember kid me being freaked out a bit by those aforementioned grisly moments. Though I was also happy how in one particular case you can infer how to utilize the…
Happy to be of service! I hope you have a fantastic time with it! Be on the lookout for easter eggs in the environment as you proceed. The devs definitely had a ton of homages to SOTN laid out for our enjoyment.
Wowza, congrats on saving everyone in Dead Rising! That’s no small feat. Yeah that game is janky in parts, but there’s really nothing else quite like it for its time. The closest thing I can recall is S.O.S. waaaaaaay back in the SNES era, but its escort AI mechanics are ABYSMAL by comparison.
Yeah, it reminds me most of the difference between fighting hordes in Diablo I versus Diablo II. In the sequel, spamming lightning or Frozen Orb can decimate a ton more guys on screen, but FEELS less dynamic than in the original.
I hear yah 100%. The last generation of game releases created such a huge chasm between AAA titles and indie selections (with so little else between). And now during this current gen, we have a ton of intriguing, niche Kickstarter and privately financed gems to add into the mix. Living time capsules left and right on…
