Yeah, I guess it depends on whether or not you define acting as the same as other types of creative work. This article was about the actor’s strike, which is a separate issue from the writer’s strike. Acting does tend to have a defined time span, where you are paid for each day’s work, unlike writing a screenplay.

I’m all for unions pushing for as much as they can as a general rule. It’s not like these big studios can’t afford it. That said some of the complaints from actors have struck me as a bit out of touch on the residuals issue. What other job do you get to just make money from indefinitely possibly 20+ years later

Besides the satisfaction factor, also paradoxically often lower stress/better work-life balance.

The biggest tradeoff in buying used is often time and effort rather than quality. Sites like ThredUp and Poshmark make it easier to shop for used clothing, for example, but their prices are often not much better than buying new. Or you could go to the thrift store in person which is typically cheaper, but then you are

I think the idea is that above a certain threshold, the *marginal increase* in happiness gained per additional dollar earned (or per percentage salary increase) is not as great. Not that it doesn’t increase your happiness at all. So a person who was making $50k who increase their salary by 20% (to $60k) may become 20%

I am doing both delayed cord clamping and the vitamin K shot. The cost/benefit still makes sense to me for the vitamin K shot even if they are also getting the blood from the placenta. There’s no documented evidence for harm from a bit too much vitamin K, versus a lot of possible harm from not enough.

If you get your flu vaccine before Halloween, you’re on track. Whether you get the shot in September or October doesn’t matter much; the CDC says both months are good.”

That’s actually a good question about how much redundancy matters. I know normally there’s not supposed to be a good reason to get the same formula of flu shot twice, but would pregnancy (after previously getting it before getting pregnant) be an exception to that?

So you can explain an election by saying something like, ‘The person with the most votes wins, and that’s fair,’ a reasonable explanation for a six year-old.”

I get that not everyone can afford to have it be a lawyer or other paid neutral third-party, but I’ve never understood why having someone involved in the will as the executor is the default. I feel like you always hear about even really rich people (who could easily afford having it be a lawyer without it

I don’t really care about germs that much in this context? As others have said you’re much more likely to catch something on your way to the hotel room than inside of it. My only big fear is bringing home bedbugs, so I do inspect the sheets and mattress when I stay in a hotel and keep my suitcase far away from the bed

Not necessarily just the airplane but vacations often involve lots of other crowded indoor places. If you take public transit at all once at your destination, if you take a group tour, going to crowded tourist attractions, etc. Also high-touch surfaces outside your hotel room like elevator buttons or subway poles at

As others have said, I think the convenience factor needs to be weighed with the environmental/cost savings factors here. I compromise and try to avoid putting anything that would shrink/lose shape in the dryer. There is an additional cost savings to this in that then my clothes last longer. But I definitely

A 2018 study examined physical activity, sleep, and screen-time data for 4,520 children across the United States, finding that nearly a third didn’t meet any of the recommendations for exercise, sleep duration, or screen-time limits.”

I’m obsessed with this recipe that uses oyster sauce to recreate the Chinese takeout place “brown sauce”. Still doesn’t taste quite the same, but it’s like 90% of the way there for me.

How far out do you have to go to get close enough to where commercial boats are catching their fish that it’s safe? Like, clearly fishing off the dock of a city pier is not safe, nor is off a boat within sight of the shore. But I wonder if it would be OK to eat the fish if you took, say, a long day trip further out

The accessibility access is a legitimate issue and they should definitely fix that in the main app. But other than that I’m kind of on Reddit’s side here, as much as I am loath to side with the big corporation. These third-party apps make money off of Reddit and previously have been getting all that for free. Why

I think my summer camp (which was otherwise not super fancy) used to feed us? Wonder how common that is or isn’t.

I guess it depends on your field. My job is hiring interns this summer and the program is specifically only open to people currently working on an undergraduate degree. It is also paid, quite well actually ($8000 stipend for the summer).

I use an 18lb or 25lb bc that’s what I bought at the start of Covid and so that’s all I have. Maybe it’s not ideal, but I feel like going high rep can make up for it to some extent? I am not using kettlebells as my primary workout multiple times a week, more a way to switch things up sometimes, so it’s not really
