Yeah I’m fully vaccinated myself, but I’m not sure if I would vaccinate my kid right now. The risk from COVID even comparing a 13-year-old vs. a 23-year-old is way, way lower for the teenager. I know that contributing to herd immunity is also a factor, but I’m not sure the risk-reward really adds up here for people

Do these $50 fares allow you to get off along the way and not complete the full journey (similar to what people used to do with using connections as a destination for cheaper flights)? If not I am really surprised that many people want to take a train for such long distances. I love Amtrak but if I need to travel from

I could see not wanting to straight up skip workouts if you’re new to exercising. But as someone who has been working out for awhile now and has a good routine going I personally kind of enjoyed just having a few “lazy days” around the vaccine. Ironically I’ve been more consistent than ever with working out over the

Never tried Quorn, but I always greatly preferred Morningstar Farms to any of the other brands.

I can see the argument that it’s not actually damaging, but doing full body back-to-back just seems really unpleasant? Maybe I’m unusual but any sort of leg compounds (like squats or deadlifts) never fail to make me sore the next day, even if I’m not going particularly heavy. If I had to skip a Monday workout on a

I have heard of fully remote work positions paying more or less depending on where you live. The idea being that employees who were made remote after initially taking the job as in-person are now already settled down in the high-COL area, and so shouldn’t take a pay cut, but that new employees don’t necessarily need

For instance, I want to ensure the people who work for me are in the same time zone so we are in sync. Many employers are going to offer hybrid work arrangements post-Covid and that will factor into who they hire because those candidates would have to come to the office at least a few days each week.

Yeah I’m in the NYC area, where taxes can vary depending on whether you live in NYC, non-NYC New York state, or New Jersey. The appropriate state and local taxes are taken out for us based on our address, but that’s a question of filling out the appropriate forms with HR once you get hired. In terms of the hiring

Aren’t these guidelines now stricter for camp attendees than the general public? I thought the new CDC guidelines required masks *or* physical distancing while outdoors, not both, regardless of vaccination status.

Yeah, if he really wanted to stay out of it because he’s not an expert, a simple “no comment” works great. He doesn’t have to be actively advocating for getting the Covid vaccine if he doesn’t want to. At minimum if he just didn’t say anything it would be a huge improvement.

Minor point but I’m not 100% sure the teen who got harassed is trans? If he’s AMAB and using he/his pronouns, wouldn’t he just be a cis boy in a dress? No excuse for him being harassed either way of course, just wondering on the terminology here.

My favorite room temperature food is any sort of grain salad. A regular lettuce-based salad is usually better fully cold IMO, but something like farro and roasted vegetables is perfect at room temp.

I know gyms are opening back up now, but bands are also a great way to add more challenge to a weight that is otherwise too light. Which makes them super useful for home workouts if you don’t have a full set of weights for cost/space/availability reasons.

Does your job at each company necessarily need its own line at that point? A bit unconventional, but I might collapse some of the older jobs. E.g. “Data analyst; Assorted firms; January 2001-December 2015". And then bullet below that says: “Firm X (2001-2005); Firm Y (2005-2009); Firm Z (2009-2015)“.

I wouldn’t really count the publications page toward the typical page limits. In which case unless you’re pretty junior, you’re pretty much on target with what’s described here in having 2 pages for the usual education and work experience descriptions.

Yeah I would think the way to go about this would be to include those positions, but with either no or only one bullet point.

A better question I think is whether it’s worth it to travel to Europe, even if you are allowed? Even in the US states that have been slower to reopen (like New York where I am), it’s looking like a good amount of the capacity restrictions on things like indoor dining will be lifted by this summer. Meanwhile with

I agree that you need to use a clean one each time, but on the other hand even a whole bunch of dishcloths is not necessarily enough for them to need their own load. If you are just throwing in the dishcloths with the load of towels or bed linens that you were going to wash anyway, the impact is pretty minimal.

My thing is that sponges get gross pretty quickly, since they can’t be washed.

I think it depends? I was a very well-behaved teenager. I’m sure I was still a pain to deal with at times, but I can’t imagine that outweighing the difficulties of the newborn/toddler phase. If anything the sheer sleep deprivation associated with even a kid who is a relatively good sleeper seems like it would have to b
