Allright I see what you're saying. I wasn't thinking of it as you trying to educate the original poster.

The post I was replying to used the brainwashing example, I was just showing how I thought it was a bad way to look at things. Why are you so angry?

My point is that saying "it's cultural" is useless. It's almost the same as saying "it's human." It's more useful to talk about why something is harmful, or why changing a culturally held belief would be a good thing.

How did I bash the comment?

The term faculty professor, if it's a real term at all, actually sounds more like a non-teaching position. If you're familiar with the term though, then I'll take your word for it.

Beats me, I've never heard anyone use the term faculty professor. Makes me think he's spouting BS and he isn't in academia at all.

What the hell does "faculty professor" mean? I Googled it and nothing comes up.

Do you think there's a market for ultra-high-quality toys that would hold up for a long time, or are they one of those things people would rather replace every once in a while?

There are these weird trends that go around with people calling out arguments for logical fallacies or things of that nature. Ad hominem comes and goes, and all of a sudden derail is big. Does everyone read the same book or go to the same lecture or something?

Alaska6628's thread is not going to derail the entire comment section to this article. This is Alaska6628's thread. They cannot derail their own thread. If you want to minimize their argument, don't respond to it. This isn't an Argument 101 class.

Thank you, milk industry spokesperson. And what exactly am I supposed to replace sugar and vegetable oil with? Splenda and lard?

I just meant that those things that @cathswart mentioned as being being more real or valuable than Santa are hardly less imaginary. They're all just ideas that mean nothing unless we believe in them. I can't show you a bucket full of love or a pile of integrity anymore than I can take you to Santa's workshop.

"It's totally normal for parents to think that their child is exceptional," as long as they have a poor "ability to analyze information and determine its veracity."

It's even worse when people realize love, respect, and other fluff of that sort isn't real, either.

I think putting "fat girls" on the ticket was all sorts of rude and insulting, but it's not the same as putting the N-word or cripple. It's closer to using black or wheelchair as a descriptor, although admittedly more insulting than either of those.

Lactation is a direct result of procreation. Only females lactate, because it is a function of their sexual anatomy. Breasts are primarily for lactation, so they are a sexual organ.

How in the world are breasts not a sex organ? Their main purpose is lactation, which is related to child-rearing, which is a sexual function.

IRL, maybe, but I've seen people accuse others of White Knighting to get laid when they are commenting on the Internet. I still haven't figured out how I can get laid by anonymous commenting.
