"How to Be a Gentleman" and "Shit My Dad Says" are blessedly no longer with us, so, yes, they do take things out back and shoot them when needed. Sometimes.

The thing with the character (John) on Southland is that he was essentially closeted until near the end of this past season.  The entirety of the portrayal of his gayness was first seeing him wake up in bed naked with an anonymous male partner.  Many episodes later, he encounters a suicidal gay teen and talks the kid

My impression was he initially thought Phil was hitting on him because they were in a gym frequented by gay guys, and it was a known pickup spot.  The equivalent of being in a gay bar and having another man ask you back to his place.  Phil didn't know that, but Broderick's character did.

The finale was a massive retcon.  SPOILERS: Back in season 2 or 3, the family built Roseanne a "writing room" in the basement.  In that episode, she ends up hating the room, and at the end she is seen writing a children's story at the kitchen table.  In the finale, she says that what really happened is that at that

Gin Wigmore, huh.  I genuinely thought that was the actress who plays Dalia on Suburbagatory.  She does seem to be touring with Jimmy Barnes, which is cool.  Too bad I hated her music.

I grew up in Green Bay.  We would have health class in the spring, and it would be taught by actual active Packers substitute teaching in the off-season.  It was so weird learning about the reproductive system from 6'7" defensive ends in tiny shorts.

Bulimic?  I guess it makes sense to cast Annabeth Gish as her mom.  Not saying Gish is, just that my point of reference for her is Mystic Pizza, and compared to then she is so incredibly gaunt now.  It always takes me forever to recognize her.

Ocean?  We know it's not Monmouth (since Museum Lady referred to that as elsewhere).  Halfway between AC and NYC would Lakewood or Brick, right?

Since, as we saw, once the Observers found the door to the pocket universe it was completely unsecured, plus the kid he hid there has disappeared (so the tapes could have walked away, too), and time works differently there along with the whole only-stuff-recorded-in-each-universe-shows-up-in-each-universe weirdness, I
