@crabperson: I always thought it was because the architecture is so similar to a PC so port is easier to do than work with a PS3 (PCs and 360s use DirectX while PS3s - and Macs - use OpenGL).

I'm not trying to be a fanboy here going all "PS3 rullzzz PC blows my mother" appeal, but as a user of the PS3 system, its particularly sad that I will not be able to get those types of games.
