The E39 is 15 years old and less reliable by the second. It’s stranded me a few times and, being a responsible adult, between the distant job and my kids, that can’t happen again. Getting to and fro, safely, cleanly and in a way that doesn’t embarrass me with documentary subjects is key.

I have an honest-to-god race car sitting in my driveway (it’s my avatar). I don’t need a ‘play’ car, nor did I ask for one.

My new job involves a 25 mile, 40-minute commute each way, so fuel economy is important. I’d also like something that can haul my two kids (7 and 10), two dogs, camera equipment, etc, but isn’t an SUV. (I’m definitely open to wagons). First two (three, if you count the plastic nipple that cracked in shipping) plastic radiators cracked. Replaced with a Zionsville all-aluminum unit two years ago. This time it was the expansion tank, which was… plastic. (There’s been a water pump, a valley pan and a water-cooled alternator in the mix, too…)
