Weird, I had always thought he wrote and directed Love, that Angels and Airwaves movie, but I guess he obviously didn’t. In the article it says it’s set 10 years after season 7 ended, so that’s outside the scope of most of the Dark Horse stuff, and definitely set after season 12 (or the “present” setting in season 12). Also timeline seems like it won’t matter much since it’ll pull Spike into an alternate reality.

My head canon was just that the animated series take liberties with scaling, they did try and shoot her to look shorter/taller in the respective scenes, but not super effective, at least they tried, it wouldn’t had made sense recasting her for a couple inches of height between the two scenes.
