Naaaaaaah, The Crown fills the Downton-shaped hole in the HFPA's hearts.

I don't see how a Lion King remake could really work. I would be totally down for an live action Aladdin as well.

The only live action remake that has been truly great was Pete's Dragon, but the original Beauty and the Beast hits me on a level which will prevent me from judging this one rationally.

It was good. Not great, but good. It was a nice spy yard with some impressive performances and some solid direction. Kind of wimped out on the ending, but le Carre endings aren't for everybody.

Oh gosh, Beauty and the Beast is gonna reduce me to a blubbering mess.

Loki is giving a really heartfelt speech, though. And it's relevant to the show, not like Leo trying to usurp an environmentalist message for The Revenant last year.

Of all the potential sweeps tonight, The Night Manager has to be the least likely.

It is. But hey, to each their own. Except for when they are WRONG.

Maybe he's especially sympathetic towards Aboriginals?

I think it might just be localized to twitter. I can't think of any actual coverage I've seen backlashing to it, just a bunch of tweets.

The HFPA is only encouraging the backlash, unfortunately. I don't think it deserved Best Screenplay, but I'm not going to argue with the success of a big, splashy, vintage musical either.

That's some of the best acting Carrell has ever done.

Same here. I'll call it a pleasant surprise, but not as pleasant a surprise as it could have been.

Olivia Coleman was really good in that, but Thandie or Lena should have won.

I had not yet watched any CEG at that point so she would not be eligible. But she'd sure be on it now!

I read an article the other day that said they had revamped it to be pretty much what you just typed.

Good question! Off the top of my head, it would probably be one of the following:

Lookin' great!

Doesn't she barely even speak with an accent in real life? So she basically presented that as her character from Modern Family.
