Way too much thought into a not-so-quality piece of entertainment…so is this what it feels like to be Rabin?

I too got a sense of glee (GLEE!) coming from Jerome, but I don't think it's one the audience was supposed to share. He's certainly a magnetic kind of villain that commands attention whenever he is on the screen, but attention and appreciation are two different things.

At first I was thinking guillotine, but I might change it to firing squad. I want it to be over fast, but I want to see it coming. While guillotine probably has the highest chance of it going right the first time and not drawing things out, I would think that some trained military folks could put one between my eyes

I dunno, I didn't get the sense that the violence was supposed to be fun. It was casually brutal, tossed off, and uncaring. It was clear that Jerome was reveling in it and enjoying himself, but I don't think the viewer was supposed to be. The villainous performances don't seem fun so much as they seem over the top.

It has gotten better at harnessing the moments of sheer lunacy into something that can keep my attention pretty regularly. It still vascillates occasionally between "hardly watchable" and "highly watchable", but the vacillations don't seem to be as wild. I wouldn't call it great or necessary TV by any means, but it

They are really trying to be The Dark Knight. It made me grin, though.

You're right. Gordon looks like the world's messiest eater.

Yeah, they have upped the shootings and blood in a big way. They are trying to be The Dark Knight much more than they were last season.

It still has some trouble being both a gritty noir and a full blown campfest at the same time, but trying to be two things as opposed to twelve like it was last season is a step in the right direction. I prefer the campfest aspects, but I like that it can get more darkly serious when it needs to.

That was one of the better Russian Roulette scenes I've seen, Gotham. More stuff like that, please.

That was a gettable FJ, too. Still a very impressive performance.

I'm probably gonna go pick that one up. I'm not sure if I want to read it pre or post TFA, but it'll happen soon enough.

BOOM! Digifreaked!

John Teti is now the Editor in Chief of the AV Club.

The enemy of the Yankees is my friend.

Gah. Fantasy football bit me in the ass this week. I hope Colin Kaepernick transfers to hell.

-FOOTBALL! Another shockingly successful weekend for my teams. Hopefully they both keep it up next week, though it won't be easy. Also, a shockingly unsuccessful weekend for a couple of teams I like the least, so that was a nice bonus. I won't gloat, though, because it's likely that my teams will lay a huge egg soon.

Agreed. JMS/Wachowskis could have either been way too earnest and philosophical, but they found a sweet spot where you got double the positives without getting double the drawbacks. The flaws in their styles are there, but they aren't magnified. It worked out absolutely as well as it possibly could have.

Yup, Lost was what I had in mind as a comparison as well. Sense8 give the impression that it doles out information to the characters when it should be doled out. There isn't a lot of cryptic hints that something will be dealt with later, or hand waving away of questions that should be answered.
