one of the things i really like about that scene is that they were allowed to have silences in the conversation. hawk didn't try to fill it up with talk, didn't try to say that same comforting stuff people say because they feel like they need to say something. he just lets them sit there with it.

i think she's in a mental limbo that Mr C/Bob put her in after assaulting her to keep her out of the way and also toy with her (she was pretty devoted to cooper, going as far as almost being killed trying to help him with his investigation). charlie started referring to the 'threshold', and audrey is locked in some

the way he was breathing and contorting his face in that scene reminded me a lot of lynch's 'elephant man'

(apologies if someone already brought this up, but) at the end of the scene where the convenience store disappears, it sounds like they are playing some music very slowed down, but it seems familiar…

i'd say it's a dig because (1) tarantino ripped off lynch pretty heavily when he started out, and then (2) he was a jerk about lynch later on, and (3) hutch and chantal are played by tarantino actors and (4) have no real depth—they're just people who like to kill and torture and eat junk food and fast food and talk

i actually thought they were cool, because my expectation was that they were going to start coming onto her and harassing her. and one person at a booth, especially in a crowded place, is kinda rude.

i wish i could place the time period. in all the audrey scenes, the decor and the clothes don't seem to go beyond the 50s, and i haven't spotted any technology beyond that…

in FWWM, referring to Judy, Jeffries said, 'we're gonna keep her out of it' (though at this point i can't recall if it was in the film or the missing pieces). i guess it's not impossible that he would refer to the gender of the nickname and not the person, but ….

i thought her mom was the famous food critic (who gave the Double R a bad review)…

hutch and chantal's constant references to fast food are such a great dig at Tarantino

to be fair, are there other mail-order-bride first wives to compare her to?

bye, Bannon Harkonnen

just a slight addition to your excellent observation ;-)

her name is spelled Buella in the credits, so I'm not sure if the same info applies in terms of the meaning of the name.

it also would seem to protect the site of the portal, as it returns them to that spot and takes away their memory of finding it. though it makes me wonder what happens if they don't put dirt in their pockets (maybe simply that they won't be able to find it at all)

the effect where Andy disappears is so jarring…i can't figure out if lynch is doing something to enhance the effect or if it's just from growing up with bewitched and such where people disappearing never came off quite right.

i think dougie's state has to do with either or both: (1) the fact that he left the black lodge by being cast into some void by the arm's doppelganger (who seems to have been working with Mr C) and had to pass through electrical currents and such (when we've seen bob, annie, and the doppelganger simply phase out of

yeah, i'm just not too friendly to the idea that exhibit one for how fucked up this dude is would be that sarah palmer is obviously unfuckable. i actually thought she was very attractive here.

but the scenes with audrey are in a setting that looks out of the 50s or earlier—the lamps, the pictures, the glass decor, charlie's rotary phone and rolodex, and even the way she and charlie are dressed; i still haven't been able to locate any element of modern technology. (and where the fireman and dido are, maybe

i still have to go with candie going into the casino to meet anthony sinclair (the insurance guy) while the mitchum brothers watch on the surveillance monitors. the way the scene is prolonged, the mitchums' frustration, and candie's gestures all had me laughing to the point of tears…
