Honda Fit. Cheap, reliable, chuck-able (relatively). Plus plenty of room to carry gear or others to and from the track.
If only the family would take 10min to google shit before posting a fundraiser.
Interesting, I killed my Mazda6 back in March. It had been a great car, very reliable, just came to the end of being worth repairing.
Even was fun to RallyCross.
Totally agree! 2019 BMW M school, one of the instructors had me jump into the stock M2 because he wanted to do a couple of laps to see if the track was to wet for us mortals to drive on. This was a car I had just got out of and thought I was doing ok. I was wrong. From the first second I wondered where he found the…
If I’m paying $2k for a line in Miami it’d better be some premium Grade A Pure shit.
Everything about this story is great, except those wheels. I love seeing NSXs on the road today still, but this tale bests them all with the love of the machine that led to the love of driving the machine daily. Well done, old man!
400,000 miles with those wheels?
Is it just me, or does the word challenge now just mean: ‘to do something that is easy but ultimately stupid’.
Every time I read a story like this, there’s the justification to purchase more tools. Haven’t been to a mechanic in 10 years except for mounting tires. They never get the whole car, I drop off just the wheels and tires so they can’t mess anything else up. Even then, there’s still a 30% chance that I need to go back…
the owner of the car should claim there’s a bunch of piracy material in the trunk, authorities will find the car in less than an hour
Sounds like this one getting overnighted from Japan. Might find it in an African warlord’s seized collection 10 years later.
F.U.C.K thieves
Exactly. Any system designed to give out money is bound to have a certain amount of fraud. The question is, do we throw out the baby with the bathwater?
Great stuff Dan, all the kinds of practical advice you won’t find from weekend warriors and those new to the sport that equate overlanding with bolting the maximum amount of gear onto an expensive car.
I hadn’t really thought about it, but the inventory of cheap but somewhat reliable older cars is probably really, really down.
This is so great. I want to do this so bad. I’ll see what they offer and then put $5,000 on top. “Oh KBB is just the suggested market price, we have a market condition adjustment”
Get a rattle-can of Tru-Coat and, uhh, seal the deal!
Dealers, I have a car to sell. It’s in high demand and very desirable. Perhaps you can meet me at the location of my choice? I’d like to develop a relationship with you. We can sit down and talk about how much you can afford to pay me, maybe put it in four handy little boxes labled “CASH”, “lotsa money”, “big moolah”…
$55k for a Kia is WILD. I know it’s a great car, and looks pretty slick, but that’s more than a new Audi S4 (or nearly as much as an RS3).
