Yeah you’d be able to stream. Looks like alot of these apps which stream from dropbox are becoming popular. Im thinking of making one that supports dropbox, Drive, OneDrive. ( so you have options )

Sounds like your issue is more with the customer service than with the actual device itself. Haven’t had any issues with mine and I was an early adopter as well. At $35 if it breaks it not really a big deal for me.
