exactly - it’s all marketing. They already have a corolla so ‘can’t’ have 2. The GR Corolla is basically the hot hatch in the lineup and more of a spiritual successor to the AE86. The current 86 has the name only but no connection in market placement to the original. The current one is sold as a bare bones sports car,

because they exist as a cheaper alternative they do have the effect of keeping the bigger airlines pricing in check. With the removal of a low cost airline, that competition will go away and prices will rise.
