If a CEO embezzles a shitload of money, they probably shouldn’t be a CEO again and people tend to be justifiably outraged when something like that happens.

I agree that he shouldn’t have the same position of power he had before all of this.
He done his time, disproportional to his crime.
And turn-based combat? It’s a pain. Nothing like getting your gameplay interrupted for minutes on end just to watch the intro animation play, the computer role some dice several times, you to roll some dice several times, then the outro animation play...only to do it all again because you got unvaoidably ambushed…
So, of course, Square took over Enix and spent the next twenty-five years crankin’ out FF clones, which is why I don’t really see how “Look, CT isn’t as bad as other Square games” as a positive - more damning with faint praise.
While the story was unique for the time, it absolutely doesn’t hold up today and is very tropey and cliche by today’s standards.
At least off the top of my head (and I’m sure there are earlier examples), Alien 3 came out in 1992.
The funny thing is that emulators actually do all of those now, so even that’s not an excuse.
I love Terranigma, but I always rated Illusion of Gaia slightly higher. Terranigma felt slightly more repetitive and the difficulty varied pretty wildly at points.
The usual arguments are:
Yep. It was a compilation of all of Square’s worst impulses and excesses of the era (in addition to everything you mentioned I also hate the battle system, which is convoluted for convolution’s sake), wrapped up in the best-sounding and most colorful package they could produce. And as the article mentions, the game…
Pretty much.
The best summary I’ve seen of Kingdom Hearts lore is “everyone is Sora, everyone else is Xehanort, and they all both do and do not have Hearts, which can be defined as- oh hey Simba’s here!”
Yes, by “KH Fan” I do mean people who are actually interested in the KH story, not just the Disney/FF cameos (and I say that as a giant FF fan).
Counterpoint: they’re both terrible because the “gameplay” in the Little Mermaid sections barely counts as such and “Swim This Way” is the worst song from either Disney or Square, barring the overtly-racist ones which are awful for different reasons.
Nomura said that’s a big reason why KH3 took ages to make. Shortly after 2 he told Disney that if they want him to work on a third game, he wants the green light to include Pixar properties and it took them literal years to get back to him. It took a year alone to get the story approved by Disney. And then, the…
It’s understandable, but also a perfect example of what I mean when I call it “gibberish that’s being made up as it goes along.” The lack of planning combined with the never-ending plot and desire for more and more complications means that these small things snowball into... whatever the hell the franchise is doing…
Are we defining “KH fan” as “someone who mainlines theory videos and is a member of several different online KH communities” or “someone who likes and has played multiple KH games”?
The problem with 2 in retrospect is that it left a lot of dangling threads for later entries to pick up, and those later entries... sure did pick up those threads. It’s kind of a Lost/GoT problem.
Not gonna lie, I’m pretty happy with “Contemplexion”
