Yeah, this is pretty much it. I have relatives in Alabama and there was something so beautiful about dusk in the country, quiet, stars just coming out, trees draped in kudzu... then some asshole in a loud beater ass car comes by blasting some music that was past its prime 20 years ago. I grew up in Kentucky. It’s beautiful....and I don’t ever, ever go back thanks to the people.

While not a separate state, my beloved home region of Upstate NY is breathtakingly beautiful (Adirondacks, Watkins Glen, Letchworth Park) but good gracious is it a mecca of MAGA enthusiasts.

This. I left South Carolina years ago. My folks still live there so I go and visit every so often. Go to the beach, go to Brookgreen Gardens, eat along the Marshwalk in Murrell’s Inlet, etc. Love it. LOVE. IT. But fuck if I ever want to move back. 

I live in Oregon but once you get outside of Portland, Eugene and Bend we’re overrun with proudly uneducated white supremacist MAGAts. Though the same can be said for Washington anywhere outside of Seattle. I haven’t been to Idaho but I heard Cour d’Alane and areas up north are beautiful and Boise is really nice but…

Thank you for the aside on Steve Martin. He’s been such a huge favorite of mine since I was a kid in the 1970s, and I’ve been afraid to ask or wonder.
