This was an excellent response, and I hope many more people read it.

As a grad student who rations food to pay my rent, I don't need you to "respect my poverty", I need you to realize that you are not stupid. You are a self-indulgent pain in the ass.

Now playing

This made me laugh so hard!! I can believe it (ackeee is also increasing in price, so I imagine this will make it easier to be "discovered" by yuppies). Your original comment brought back some memories for me. I remember once this very white dreadlocked dude came into our store looking for beeswax hair stuff. I sold

Sorry for the confusion! By WI I meant West Indian, not Wisconsin...we're in a suburb of Toronto, Canada.

Oh no, when I put WI I meant West Indian (and you are in Wisconsin!). I apologize, my family's business is in Canada. Thank you for being sweet enough to offer to shop with us though!

I met my bf at a conference during grad school. I'm in Canada (east coast) and he is on the west coast of the US. We have been together almost three years. It has been difficult as we only see each other 4-5 times a year; being poor grad students makes things hard when it comes to LDR. However, I think about how much

My parents own a small WI grocery. We have had the buiness for over twenty years, but it's been really difficult financially for us for the past 5 years. We had to close one of our stores due to competition (small business can't compete with the big guns). I am hoping things will get better. Thank you, I'm glad that

Well she is "influenced by all of that because she sees it all". Fucking hell.

GinaMarie: I love hip-hop music. Sometimes they use that word — I have a big mouth, I'm Italian, I'm from New York; sometimes I might curse, sometimes I might say things. I don't think it's right for them to use the n-word in music. I know all different nationalities and religions. I'm influenced by all of that

This is exactly what I was thinking!!

I actually agree with you. But my point is, until the day all religions are referred to as "mythologies", Hindu texts and the deities within should not be referred to as such. Why start this pattern with Hinduism, and now? This isolates and further exoticizes a religion that is not well understood in Western culture.

Exactly this. I doubt that Jesus would be described as "a man from Judeo-Christian mythology" on a public forum without any sort of comment. Using more specific, culture-sensitive descriptors seems like the way to go here, but sometimes those from outside of the culture are not always aware of what those words should

If I may suggest, could you please replace "Indian mythology" with "Hindu scriptures". I'm sure this was not intended on your part, but "mythology" seems like an inappropriate word to describe the goddesses of these sacred texts.

I cried too :( I felt terrible for the Professor.

This exactly. All fun and games until you're the ones who can't afford to pay your bills, buy groceries and clothes. Whenever people tell me I came from a "ghetto" place, I just remember that my neighbourhood (mostly immigrants) had the hardest work-ethic of anyone I know.

I hate this "sorry we offended you" non-apology bullshit. Seriously. It's condescending and trite, better you said nothing at all.

haha!! this is the BEST description of him, ever

Dorothy always speaks the truth.

I love your name and I love this message!

Nailed it!
