The annual ~discourse~ over Baby, It’s Cold Outside is basically masturbation.

I feel like this is a pretty big reach for an article at best, and disingenuous baiting at worst. The old adage about “any headline with a question mark is answered with a ‘no’” holds on here. But yolo.

Seriously. And:

Breitbart saw Gamergate as basically their chance at a new younger audience of paranoid reactionaries (when you consider how old most of the Tea Party demographic is, finding young people is important), and the CSGO stuff is them trying to cash in on that.

No they don’t. I mean, it might be comforting to think that, but they really don’t.

Grand Final turnd out even better than a rematch, it seems!

Team composition suggestions put a finger on the scales towards the game to be played a certain way. Maybe that’s how Overwatch is balanced, but in DotA for instance, there’s a lot of ‘unconventional’ lineups that work perfectly well, a lot of weird roles for different heroes, so on. You can draft a lineup without any

It doesn’t have gated gameplay content, which puts it in a separate category. If you disagree, whatever. Gated gameplay content/locked off portions of rosters and stuff makes a huge difference because it changes the way the game is designed and balanced for the worse, so I tend to see it as a pretty important

This is the right idea. Locked/gated rosters are anathema to competitive gameplay - you can’t design and balance the game properly if The Player’s Experience means they typically only have access to a small portion of the roster. This leads to you balancing around clearly defined roles, which leads to

For the record, DotA has no game-effecting microtransactions whatsoever, no locked content, etc. Please don’t lump it in with other games that gate content/limit rosters/etc.

Oh lord, I had forgotten that this was the same person.

...what, control points?

That’s uh, a bit of a hair trigger you got there.

Maybe they should have taken an interest before flubbing Starcraft 2.

Yeah, but there’s still the ‘knowing the ball is going to be right here, at this speed’ and ‘thinking the ball is going to be going 100 in this general area’, which is a huge difference

If Chapman only threw his fastball and threw it in the same spot every time, he’d be in AA at best.

If you tell a MLB batter that the pitch is going to be the same speed, in the same location, they’re going to drill it just about every time. Batting is incredibly hard because you’re facing a pitcher - not because ‘hit fast ball with bat’ is inherently that difficult.

Well the comparison was made between a batter and this guy, and that poster (Sion) rightly points out that in baseball, the pitcher is deliberately trying to deceive the hitter, changing speeds by up to 30mph sometimes, guiding the ball to spin or cut or slide in unnatural paths.

Dour is actually perfectly on point with the problem I had in BE. The color palette is just incredibly unremarkable - I understand it is supposed to be an alien world but there is nothing vibrant or striking, no bright greens or stark blues or anything. Everything feels... dim.
