The pale man himself doesn't scare me that badly, though the whole scene is extremely creepy and effective. What gets me is when Ofelia gets to the end of the hallway and is trying to open the door back to her room. The tension is just unbearable.

I've watched that movie three times, and the violence of the bottle scene is shocking every single time.

Samara crawling out of the TV was amazingly creepy. I saw it in a packed theater, and a bunch of us were reflexively pushing ourselves back in our seats, trying to get away from the screen. If that's not a testament to good horror, I don't know what is.
