Ah, gotta love that “fake geek girl” myth.
Lol no. They don’t own the product and I’m sorry, plenty of women, LGBTQ, and minorities helped keep the lights on. When I was playing Magic in the late ‘90s we played with people of all types, not just straight, white, dudes. But keep being a shitty gatekeeper. Eventually everyone will realize people like this are…
Right. It’s not that. And that stereotype misses the point about harassment.
Evil understands evil, but evil is incapable of helping someone understand anything else. It is not a solution.
Because they’ve built up a narrative that the only reason they are social outcasts is their nerd hobbies. So when women, or more successful men, or other folks they denigrate come in and enjoy the same things they enjoy, then it’s a threat to that narrative. Women aren’t supposed to like nerd things because if they…
Gross sexist man-children aren’t half as obnoxious as the constant cheating.
You clean slag off of a hot billet (think forging), not welds, but I’ve never thought to pick up one of those brushes. Will do.
The second to last opponent I ever played a game of competitive Magic against was a woman. She was young — likely in her late teens or early 20's — beautiful and polite.
Your continuation of the analogy seems apt. I could see that sort of mentality being present for many. I wish they would realize that there’s more than enough cake for everybody, and additional cake customers would only allow the bakery to expand and make higher quality cakes.
She’s not remotely ugly. She has her own unique style. I watched the final and she is an impressive good player. She manage to navigate and predicted well against a deck full of mono-blue deck counter. I think she was only handling the deck for 2 weeks. I think thats4 how i remember her interview.
The correct response to bodyshaming is not more bodyshaming friend. Be part of the solution instead of the problem.
I always just kind of assumed this was how the world always worked. “The system’s rigged to benefit the rich and/or powerful.” I think everyone sort of feels that.
“Until then, toxic communities will breed toxic players where that kind of attitude is the norm, and they will continue to have these attitudes and behaviors in the more competitive scenes.”
Very much this. When I got back into magic a few years ago I played casually with a small group of people and then we decided we wanted to do Friday Night Magic (FNM) at a Local Game Store (LGS). FNM are the lowest level of competitive play, a cross between babies first tournament and your friends chilling and playing…
I’m going to say I was lucky to find my Magic footing in a game store where the tournaments were hosted by a woman who would seriously kick you out if you tried any stupid shit. Everybody respected her (at least, when they were in the store) and behavior was very polite. We had women and children who became quite…
A lot of it also comes down to local communities and Local Game Stores. They need to start policing bad behavior, inappropiate comments and slang terms that make non-white, non-male individuals stay away more often than not.
I run events weekly and I have had to remove a number of players for using the term “F*ggot”…
Does... does she not know that ASU is shorthand for “DeVry but with binge drinking?”
What’s especially depressing is that this in an innovation - the side door. This (1) isn’t even a fraction of the total number using the side door across the country and (2) most of these shitholes use the “backdoor,” giving shit tons of money to the University’s foundation or something similar.
