I still think your best bet is getting something like hotwheels nitro speeders and adding some IR blasters to an arduino along with wired controllers to it. you just need to decode the IR patterns (shouldn't be hard if you have an O scope.)

Th only probalem with that is that any RC that small has everything combined, though you could have an arduino send the commands over FM or 2.4ghz (depends on the model) or IR for most toy RC's

Kind of ignoring the fact that this would be great for VR body position sensing, since your body position is determined completely by angles at your joints. Also good for robotics, it would be a lot simpler to implement than what we are doing now.

big picture mode is designed to be readable on a big tv from your couch and can be navigated using an Xbox 360 controller. A much more console like interface.

Almost any affordable IEM has the issue of sounding like it's coming from the middle of your head., not ideal for positional audio. If they strapped the drivers from some Porta Pros on there I think we would have a pretty good solution.

Yeah if it was done right it would be pretty fun. I think the writers would be more fun to hang out with though.

Honestly I still think a PVM + RGB or Component gives you the best picture quality. It's miles better than a shitty old CRT but it still retains the original feel.
