Amazon has the lowest price ever on a monstrous 6-core 3.5GHz i7 processor today. In fact, it's $300 less than it was just yesterday. It's not a Haswell chip, but the big advantage of that generation was power savings. That's probably not your highest priority if you're buying this.

It has to do with the amount of compression you can add before you lose important detail. Previously there wasn't really enough detail for it to make a huge difference.

It's 1/4 the resolution the way you did it, because you took away half of BOTH the horizontal and vertical lines, 720p is actually less that half 1080p, but fairly close.

Half the horizontal lines of resolution sure, but both numbers are important. 960*540 is a hell of a lot smaller than half of 1920*1080.
