In 2000, I remember test-driving a V6 5-spd 2-door Wrangler with a soft top and soft doors.  Even in stock configuration it was incredibly noisy and wandered all over the road.  But it cost $17k.  Isn't that the Jeep the die-hards want?

Oh, sweet summer child...

Boeing did that to their machinists recently.  Last week, maybe?

Try driving your 1974 Corvette L-82 with a recent engine rebuild from Northern Virginia to Western Colorado with your 80 year old disabled father in the passenger seat. Now that’s a level of hell I would never wish on anyone. By the time we made it to West Virginia, the distributor (at least it was only the

That tiny pic makes him look like Ray Liotta's character in Hannibal.  RIP, Ray.

My four-year-old thinks you meant "poopy butt".

Yep.  I drove into DC twice to make Uber deliveries.  Got a ticket both times.

My C3 Corvette. Engine just got rebuilt so it should be reliable. But seat foam is 50 yrs old, driver seat frame is thrashed, AC doesn’t work and radio isn’t wired up. And I’m driving it from VA to CO on the first. Very cramped for my 5' 9" frame, too. A miata would be much more comfortable.

I was born in 1974.  I'm going to leave out anything not sold or completely unknown in the U.S. at the time and go with the Bricklin SV-1.  Too heavy, body panels melted or delaminated.  Parts sourced from something like five different manufacturers.

I'm about to take delivery of my hybrid 2019 Suzuki Hustler with a 650cc 3-cyl engine (57 hp) and I can't wait to putter around in it.  This is probably pretty similar.

I'm still obliged to put in a plug for the 74.  I think 75 was really the beginning of the end for the C3.

Fuel efficient small cars with small engines are preferable to hybrids because they’re easier and cheaper to repair (and cost less on the front end). I drive a 27 year old Civic with a 1.5l engine and it’s actually a pretty enjoyable drive.

Slipstream was great and under-appreciated.  You take that back.

So my 2007 BMW X5 oil change intervals were set at 10k miles in the iDrive system.  The only reason I think BMW was so generous was because the engine consumed a quart of oil each month, thus DEcreasing the oil change interval.

It’s a brave new world, all right. I’ve lately been perusing Craigslist for cars that need a new starter, tires, or brakes and the current owner just can’t be bothered anymore.

yep, that’s right. I’ve got a 70s car with a Holley carb. I didn’t know how bad the varnish and gumming could be until I didn’t really drive it all summer.  Going forward, I'll need to add an $8 bottle of Stabil to every tank.  Honestly I'd pay more for ethanol-free gas just to simplify my life.

I bought two different gen3 Nissan Pathfinders last summer. A 2005 and a 2011. Both had Bruce Springsteen discs abandoned in the head units.

I’d argue that the sad trombone years began in 1975. As an owner of a ‘74, I can tell you there are no smog equipment, ECU, or cats. The car has true dual exhausts, as well.  I've got the L-82 with the Muncie M21 and it's plenty quick.

I don’t get what others are seeing. There was a slideshow button but I just didn’t click it. I was able to simply swipe up through the content on my phone.

My fun discovery this weekend was that my wheel hub assemblies were relatively easy to remove (rent the puller from your local auto parts store - don’t be a hero) and reinstall, but the stabilizer bar links were impossible, due to the narrow nut on the inside of the bar. couldn’t get a crescent to stay on it, so I’ll
