The general criteria for Person of the Year is something to the effect of “person who had the largest/most profound effect on the world this year, but not necessarily positive effects.”

They’re referring to a brokered convention. If my understanding is correct, this is when no single candidate has a sufficient majority of the delegates going into the convention and the party has to wheel and deal behind the scenes to re-allot the delegates so someone has a majority.

That quote about him being exactly the same at age 42 as he was at 17 is one of the most damning things I’ve ever read about anyone ever. And it’s crazy that it came from a friend! That is not a compliment! In no way shape or form should you be the same at 17 and 42.

That she’s out there still going after being a used as a national punchline since I was 6 years old is one of the things that actually makes me like her quite a bit, or at the very least respect the hell out of her for just getting up in the morning.

I often get the impression that she’s probably extremely likeable in person, but seems to struggle with it in the large scale settings, at least compared to people like Obama who are extremely natural and comfortable in what seems like most settings. I’m not sure if she’s maybe a comparatively low-key or private

I think how politically involved she was is exactly why she’s the right wing’s boogeyman to this day. Just everything about her was unacceptable to them. I was a kid at the time, so I was trying to find info to see if I’m remembering correctly, and I found this. If you go down to the bit about her time during Bill’s

I can’t remember if Jez linked to it at all, but did you ready that Daily Beast profile about Ted Cruz? It was one of the most damning things I’ve ever read. Basically everyone he knew at Princeton (except the other Debate kids) haaaated him and all mentioned how his world view is exactly the same today as it was when

I’ll have to look for the video of that. What did Michael Steele say? I feel like sometimes he sticks to the party line and other times he’s like “omg I hate these guys so much”

I end up watching CNN at home because my cable doesn’t include MSNBC anymore for reasons(??), but I listen to MSNBC while I’m at work, because they put a bunch of their shows up for free. There are a few people on CNN who have their shit together, but you end up spending a lot of your time like “uhhh what?” with any

And it worked, apparently. Latest polls show Trump with a 7-10pt lead on Carson.

I have CNN on at the moment and they’re discussing the BLM protester that Trump said deserved to get roughed up and it seems like the anchor is trying reaaaaal hard to be like “Why did your candidate say that? It’s because you’re racist, yes?” without actually saying that. I honestly wish they’d just come out and say

This is what I was thinking. I recall Girl Scouts being a mix of stuff. The camping was always a bit more of a special activity, since it involves going someplace, but they did day trips too. Like, one time we did archery. But, during the winter we did lots of volunteer stuff and the more arts and crafts type

From what I’ve seen, the Slot’s coverage is more even-handed.

Democratic socialism advocates for a democratic political system along side a socialist economic system. So... she still has a point.

The Slot’s coverage has been vastly superior to Gawker’s thus far, imo.

Didn’t one of them get distracted by a turtle? That was such a bizarre video.

If you haven’t before, you should definitely listen to the Ian Fleming episode of the Dead Authors podcast. It goes off the rails in a big way as it goes on, but Gourley plays Fleming as a monstrous misogynist with so many documented bizarre ideas about the world that it gets hard to tell what is just Gourley riffing

To be fair, she was only in the Sea Org for a short while and it sounded like her mom bailed her out before she had to go to the RPF (where shit gets real bad) and celebrities always have a cushier time than everyone else. This was never going to have the same horror stories. They definitely could have talked more

Gah, think not thing. I make that typo like it’s my job.

I’m starting to thing the problem is mostly that they went WAY too hard on the make-up. By going too literal (the fucked up ears, the next level unnatural looking hair) everyone just looks misshapen and terrifying.
