For once I think it is totally fine that the white guy took one for the team. the harm in investigating is that the news would have kept his story alive robbing the dems from the right to claim they fully support women. For once it was the white guy who took one for the team and allowed that story to basically die at

I feel the same way. I know so many worthy women that are single (ranging from late 20s to late 50s in age) and maybe one worthy guy who is single and the guys is actually just in his late 20s.

Oh so true. My mom did marry in love with my father but he was such a terrible person. Now that my mom is divorced and alone at 55 she is SO HAPPY!! She has been divorced for 18 years. She is not completely closed to finding a new guy but she has high standards now and is more aware that finding a good partner is HARD

This is really angering for me as a public health researcher. Public health policies that are often easy and cheap to implement are not being implemented because of the power we have given in this country to religion and religious nut jobs. This is a fight that should not exist. Science and not religion should guide

I like the articles at Splinter but the commenters are rude and they seem to have even fewer commenters than Jezebel, at least fewer ungreyed ones.

“Globally, the number of people using heroin, opium and morphine has changed little in recent years, the report indicated. In 2014, a total of 17.4 million people used these drugs, amounting to 0.4% of the global population age 15-64. What has changed, though, is the regions where people are using.

Counterpoint to your counterpoint: the people that are being killed by the drug epidemic are the ones that are supposed to be productive right now. The olds are still here and will still be using resources for a while.

There are many places in the world living with constant existential angst and yet the opioid problem is only happening in the US. Perhaps it’s the pharma companies pushing their garbage on the medical profession?

Aw! That is such a nice memory. I hope my kids remember the annual making of the tamales when they grow up too.

One question I have is: is there a “good” way to handle the tutoring? I do not want the kids to see the tutoring as a chore as extra school as not fun at all and to pull away from it or hate it. I am definitely planning to hire tutors but I am afraid that the kids will see it as me making them work extra and resent it

I agree that I need to be very aware of the fact that their experiences will be very different from mine and I need to respect that. I think some parents can be so hung up on teaching their kids to be “X-nationality” enough that they can make mistakes. It is something I want to try to avoid while at the same time

:D

ha ha his tamales did end up being terribly shaped. That must be what happens the first time.

I hope you enjoyed them.

Yes! I like art, stories, music, dance, cooking, literature,...I hope I don’t overwhelm them ha ha

Thanks! It is very helpful to know that it seems like it can be “easy” to get the kids interested in the language and culture.

I agree with you that children can learn several languages at a time. I am bilingual though I learned English as an adult. When I watched Master of None I realized that I could understand most of what was said in Italian. I really think that if you leave me in an Italian town for a couple of weeks I will be able to

Thanks. Yes it is a hard balance. I don’t want to be rigid but I want to encourage my kids to be bilingual and knowledgable about my family history. I am a genealogy nerd and have done extensive research on my family roots and I have videos of the elders in my family telling stories. My kids are very young to

Thank you for the tip!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone. I have some questions that hopefully spur some fun family memories and help me with my own kids. Are you a son or daughter of immigrants? Are you bilingual? How did your parents encouraged you to learn their language? How did they keep you connected to their culture?
