How???? Like, O’Rourke was always a long shot, and I can understand this, but Gillum? I really thougth he’d make it.

I said on my Facebook wall that Beto still came out on top because he could very well win a presidential election someday, while Cruz will die being hated by half his state and most of his coworkers. No one is talking about how Cruz pulled some sort of massive victory - they’re talking about the guy who lost running

What a weird word salad.

I will say this — my friend voted in FL today.

I’ve already seen some people say that Gillum lost because he campaigned with Hillary Clinton and wasn’t committed enough to Medicare for all.  If some so-called progressives can’t be bothered to vote against a racist because the other guy failed to pass the purity test, then I don’t know what to say.

Few experts and pundits expected Gillum to win. It was always seen as an uphill battle.

Democrats won the House and the House controls the budget.

There’s a perfect reason why Florida and Texas both always disappoint: they are America’s dick and balls.

Honestly, I’m more disgusted that MsCaskill and Heitenkamp lost.  You shouldn’t lose for doing the right thing.  And especially with Heitenkamp, there was some pretty evil fuckery.

And what do you know...

Rick Scott is not DeSantis. I mean, he’s horrible, but he’s not DeSantos horrible. If a generic Republican had won I wouldn’t be alarmed, but DeSantis winning reinforces the idea that it’s likely not just dislike of Hillary Clinton that motivated Florida voters in ‘16. They’d have to actively like this Trump schtick

On the other hand it was a tight race and over 1 million people with criminal records are about to get their voting rights restored.

God this night is simultaneously encouraging as fuck (Kobach! Brat!) and depressing as fuck (DeSantis! Cruz!).

This seems like a terrible sign for 2020. Sure there are paths to 270 that don’t seem include Florida, but it’s a harder climb without it on the board.  A Trump worshiping racist mouth breather winning certainly makes it seem like they’re primed to go red again in the next election.

I’m feeling a lot of pain for Gillum’s unexpected loss, unexpected for all of the “experts” and pundits anyway.

You cannot be done, do not be defeated.

Don’t give up! We have to keep fighting. Texas has come so far already, like another commenter said. It was a close race. Just do what I plan to do going forward: talk shit about Ted Cruz at every opportunity.

In a midterm election, against a Republican incumbent, a Democrat is not supposed to get this close in Texas. His campaign has had positive effects for Dems downballot, too. Pete Sessions is ousted, for example.

As a Texan, I am bummed. But also strangely optimistic! Such a close race, and I’m happy to picture Cruz shaking in his boots for the past few months

His is definitely a cultural thing and I was definitely not raised that way. I benefited greatly from having two working parents and am extremely thankful for it. I never realized how poor we were but my parents definitely let us see what stress and exhaustion looked like. This not only made me respect them but I
