When you grow up, you might like it

I have found that 90% of people who say they hate pineapple on pizza, have never even tried it.

No, no, you have to fuck them and THEN move on! It doesn’t work at all the other way around!

Man would I love to get a house built exactly the way I want, because everything seems to be architecturally stuck in the 19th century and it fucking sucks, but building a house where I am is simply not financially feasible unless you are deep into six figures. I’m not that deep. Instead I get the privilege of paying

When I pay $1000 and up for someting, I am sure as hell getting what I want or I’ll will gladly keep looking or just save my money.

Except we live in the age of instant gratification. I can’t see most people waiting 8 weeks (or more) for their new ride to show up on the transporter.  Until they 3D print cars at the dealership, they’re always going to have to carry a bunch of cars on the lot.

Seems like a great idea but how long’s the lead time? Like if I’ve made up my mind to buy a car and found one on the lot that fits my personal specifications, I’ll buy it that day. But if lead times on made to order Fords are months and months and months, people would just lose patience and buy a competitor’s vehicle.

Maybe cable isn’t viable anymore. Video is certainly still in flux, but we are right now in a horrific place. Disclosure: I’m old. I prefer to DVR live stuff from cable and watch it at my leisure. Sure, many things I could watch on-demand, but there’s too often a caveat like it only being available in an 8.79663-day

Mechanically, sure, but they’re annoying to work on.

Your point is largely due to the US dealership model. I see this all the time in the Corvette community. You can “order” a car all you want through the build process, however ultimately a dealer can renege on the price if it’s a model that they believe they could get more money off of with some lot retention. Think of

I don’t mean to sound obtuse here, but like... yeah, this is obviously the way it should be. I have purchased a brand new car twice in my life, and both times were cars that I ordered with exact colors and option packages.

I’d really appreciate it if they quit making me buy 19s or 20s to get a higher trim level.  It’s a pain in the ass to sell them on Craigs and sourcing like new steelies isn’t straightforward sometimes either.

Yup. To get rear disc brakes on a ‘15 Focus we had to get a package including LED ambient lighting. Know what I don’t care about?

Isn’t a 60 days supply considered ideal in the current dealer model? Kinda sounds like Ford is figuring out that “just in time” inventory (i.e. scarcity) is more profitable than having half a years of inventory. i.e. sounds like they’ve figured out what most other car companies have known for a while.

It’s funny you mention GTA because a couple years back they pushed an update for GTA4 to remove some songs that had their licenses expire.
I miss when you could just own software.

One way cars have actually and measurably gotten worse is owner/operator serviceability. Also repair costs.

The fact that a modern Camry can outperform the 80s supercars of my childhood supports your theory.

ND.

“watch a time lapse of this guy throwing away 50 filters”

I think everyone’s missing the obvious solution here.
