Weather extremes? Nordic countries get along quite well with tons of snow and smaller vehicles. Rain and heat don’t matter for trucks vs. cars.

We have space, long distances between towns, big roads, weather extremes, and big parking spaces in the vast majority of the U.S. that just don’t compute from an E.U. perspective

Full size trucks and SUVs make perfect sense in much of the country.

Rugged individualism

Introducing the 2034 Ford F350.

Nobody “needs” trendy clothes that an influencer would sell. People need clothes that are durable, professional, and machine-washable. I’ve done plenty of thrifting in my life, and the stores in my area have never lacked for clothing in those categories in a huge range of sizes.

As a small time reseller myself, you do not rake in the dough doing this unless you are selling local on FB. Seller fees and shipping eat so much of the gain that buying something for say $3 and flipping it for $25 only gets you like $4-5 profit. So no, a lot of these people are not rich.

Thrift stores don’t sell *to* poor people. They sell to raise money for other programs (which sometimes involve just giving clothes to the poor). Anyone buying the clothes is good because it funds the other stuff.

A lot of resellers aren’t “skinny and white”. At the store I worked at, most of our resellers were black, with a bunch of latin & Asian immigrants too. A lot of the people buying resale are also in those communities who just don't have time to thrift. And a lot of thrift stores have programs where clothes and store

But then corn, and the vet bills, stabling...

Isn’t that exactly what leasing is supposed to be for? When I was younger, I didn’t understand it (who wants to make payments on a car, then after a few years, they come and take the car after you’ve paid into it?), but now I get that, if you want to drive the latest/ safest/ reliable car, that leasing provides a way

If I was making the average used car payment on a new car I’d feel like I was splurging beyond reason.

He is a cyclist. So people running red light could very well be a life and death issue for him.

when you install traffic cameras in your town, guess who gets all the tickets?

Based on the original NY Times article, many (most) of the cars he finds with intentionally altered license plates are cop cars/city vehicles. So, there’s a reason “the system” is not addressing this.

No need to put journalist in quotes. He worked for those publications, so that’s what he is.

I think this is great. The cops are doing a shit job of enforcement and he is helping shine a light on obvious fraud. As far as “vandalism”. These people don’t own their plates, the state does. Fixing the plate isn’t vandalism.

As a car blog I think we should be happy this guy is doing this. It reflects poorly on ALL

The NYPD can’t be bothered because it’s cops and cop family pulling this shit.

I live in a city which is covered by cameras. There are still some drivers who cover up their plates and they are always the most aggressive and disrespectful on the road. If they get busted then I’d be happy. I’m not sure it’s some guys job to do that, but if I had to choose a side to back it would be the narc this

He maybe shouldn’t be identifying himself in the process of identifying these ghosts cars, but otherwise I think he’s bring needed attention to something the city has let slide.
