Nah, the Jeep driver should be forced to ride an undersized Wal-Mart bike with half-inflated tires.

I live in Alberta (Canada’s fucking backwater). I turned 50 and gave up cycling to work. I’ve been swerved at, spit on, crowded into curbs, and in one memorable altercation actually pushed off my bike at a stoplight (dude reached out the passenger window and pushed me over, screaming “cyclist f*%”).
I used to ride thousands of miles a year and now I rarely ride on the road at all. Cellphones, talk radio, and just irrational hatred are too much to bear - I’m not risking my life because some jackass read on 4chan that all cyclists are communists. And the ones who aren't actively trying to hit you, a substantial…
Texas barely brings charges on actual vehicular homicide. Remember affluenza kid who got off for killing 4 people while drunk driving? Texas.
One thing that’s worth noting is why the charges aren’t more severe. In order to charge the driver with assault or attempted murder, they’d have to identify the victim.
Just...fuck Texas. Really. Why do people choose to live there?
Fuck Texas. Fuck cops. Fuck that Jeep guy. Charges should be more serious than a misdemeanor. He could have killed the cyclist. No, you don’t fucking joke around like that.
That’s attempted murder.
in the sense that “defund” means “reduce the funding of,” you’re 100% correct
I own 6 cars. I maintain them all myself and repair them myself with my preferred mechanic on standby to inform me that I’m a moron when I get in over my head. I love having these cars. That being said, I actually only drive 5,000 miles a year and wholeheartedly agree with pretty much everything you’ve written. I…
We should do nothing that doesn’t solve the problem 100%
I love my car but I would bike/ride/walk to work way before I drove, if possible.
About 10 years ago, we decided to go to chicago for an overnight. Instead of driving into the city, we drove to one of the suburbs and caught the Metro into downtown. It took longer than driving and we had to wait for the train. But otherwise? It was magnificent.
“There are segments of the population (very young, elderly) that bikes don’t make sense.”
These are exactly the same people who are poorly served by automobiles.
“Before we even begin to think about banning cars or whatever, alternatives have to be presented that are appealing and outweigh the benefits of a car based…
you call it idealistic i call it practical. Car prices are on the rise, oil prices are on the rise, Heat is on the rise, Commute times are on the rise, wages are stagnant.
> They can apply to urban centers such as NYC, but how do they work in areas where walking a few city blocks isn’t as short a jaunt, or as rich an experience as NYC? For example, NYC is densely populated with bodegas and other conveniences on almost every block. That contrasts with other cities where such…
To quote Doug Gordon:
“Back then (2008) , automakers rushed to push out more economical vehicles because of consumer demand”
Third Gear: One of the significant reasons that car buyers aren’t going back to smaller cars is that there are significantly fewer to small cars to buy. Want a Fiesta or Focus? How about a Cruze or a Dart? How about a cheap VW Golf or Honda Fit? Forget it. Those aren’t available anymore.
the average price of a new EV has hit $54,000 — making it around $10,000 more than the average cost of a new gas-powered car
