@technophobia: CA, MA, and RI all charge sales tax based on the unsubsidized price of the phone. So it's more like 10% sales tax on a price of $499. Which is about right in California.

@beatledud: It's not even new news! Gizmodo reported on this last week. I'm just not sure why everyone is so shocked. [gizmodo.com]

@dvena: I saw on their website that they can't cancel online orders because they "go into processing as soon as they're placed." WTF dudes, it's not like you were already boxing up the phone and a bunch of accessories and had it ready to go or anything. Just cancel the damn order.

@Sport6: Huh. Good to know. Hubby is the one who actually ordered our phones (two separate orders), so even though I can look up the status with the order number, I can't see that kind of detail. So I stand corrected. Thanks.

@whatthewhereis: Yeah. Wasn't there a big article about this just last week, how AT&T was allowing any current iPhone user whose upgrade date was in 2010 to upgrade right away? I bought the 3GS at launch last year and I was eligible for full discount pricing. This is not an error on AT&T's part.

@Mark 2000: Pretty sure that gets applied to your first bill after activation. Good luck with it, though.

Well crap. Looks like an order I thought didn't go through on AT&T's site yesterday actually did. I never got an email or order number or confirmation or anything, but it shows up when I search for my order status. Which is a pain in the ass, cause I also ordered through Apple later in the day, when I was actually

@JEmlayUSA: Ummm. I think so. However, iOS 4 comes out on June 21, so assuming the Apple servers aren't having issues like they are today, you should have time to upgrade your old phone to it before you get the new one, just to make sure they're on the same version. Upgrading is free.

@AmphetamineCrown: Just make sure you do a backup of the old phone like night before. After you activate the new phone, you will have the option to "restore" it using the backup you made, and that should transfer all your apps and app data, email and network settings, etc.

@AndrosZ: Last year, I upgraded my old dumb phone to a 3GS that I'd ordered from Apple to be delivered to my house. I plugged in the new phone to iTunes, it already had my phone number programmed in to the SIM card that was preinstalled - I just had to confirm the information was correct and hit "okay" and it

@JEmlayUSA: No, your old phone will continue to work just fine. However, when you plug the new one into iTunes, it will already have your account information loaded up - it will ask you to confirm your phone number and when you do so, your old phone de-activates and the new one activates. At least, that's how my 3GS

@ODoyleRulz: It was "approved" because a starred commenter replied to it. That automatically approves it.

@Le0nidas: I've yet to run into a Wal-Mart that IS 24 hours. They're just not that common where I live (central Massachusetts.)

@aprather: If you already have the $30 unlimited plan, you can keep it as long as you have it continuously (ie no canceling or changing plans and then going back to it.) That applies even if you upgrade or change phones.

@serrada: I'm a secondary phone on a family plan, and I got bumped early (got the 3GS on launch day.) But, the primary was already eligible (he has a 3G from 2 years ago.) So maybe they're only bumping one iPhone per account.

@titania1285: That doesn't seem right. Why couldn't you each get your own cake? Or one year he picks one and you pick the next year? Didn't your parents have any sense of fairness? Didn't your brother love you and want you to be happy? Man, being a twin is complicated.

@Kaiser-Machead: Yeah, using the browser view that OCEntertainment mentions above allows you to filter down and select stuff very easily. I had a moment of panic with iTunes 9 when it had moved over to the side, but fortunately you can still set it back at the top.

@wednesdayam: What about "marrying early" when the considering of "waiting" to have sex isn't the issue? My hubby and I were high-school sweethearts, and have been together since we were 16. We certainly didn't wait to have sex till we were married, but we also didn't wait too long to get married, either (right out

@WantToTouchtheWahine: I've had *NO* period for the last 3 years, ever since I got my Mirena IUD, although granted it was fairly light to begin with. It's been wonderful. Be prepared for a *little* pain and cramping for a few days, though, especially when you haven't given birth before (that was my case, and my gyno

@Vermontboy: I was just going to comment about how I thought "Aelita" was a beautiful name.
