while i don’t see it as equivalent to a minstrel show,i do see it as tokenism. a happening comparable to a minstrel show is when a cisgender man was hired to play a trans woman when the casting directors could have easily hired a trans actress.

Well, I think you’ve raised a valid point regarding the inadvertent (hopefully) designation of trans people as different and separate. At the same time, though, recognizing that differences do exist and that some interpretations of those differences can/do disenfranchise entire groups of people is worth thinking…
But in this world of social media, you have to announce these things because if you don’t you have people screaming all over the internet, “WHERE IS MY REPRESENTATION!!!!????? AND WHY DON’T YOU MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT?” Because if you were to present this without fanfare you would get a backlash of trying to sweep…
I very much understand your feeling but the reason I’m against it is because I grew up in the very stereotypical Midwest anti-gay conservative values household. My family wasn’t even anti-trans because they would have had no idea such a thing existed. So stuff like this and a lot of what is going on falls into the…
I feel really on the fence about this because on the one hand, increasing trans visibility is a good thing, but on the other hand, lately I feel like trans people have become trendy to the point of objectification (or a marketing tool, which is a li’l vulgar). I think you’re right that this issue is a lot more complex…
No. I’m hoping for a world where there’s people in front of the camera and I’m not told in a PR announcement that they’re transgender. You’re the one who doesn’t understand the world we should be working towards. In reality, there could’t be a smaller group than then transgendered. For all the recent press and fight…
Making rich but cheap white women feel like they’re supporting trans rights by shopping at a place that uses trans models isn’t some positive thing. It’s a minstrel show. I’m surprised they’re not using their Asian sweat shop slave work force as models to really entice their customer base into buying for the sake of…
I really really wish I wouldn’t have read the last several paragraphs of that article. I read it on a plane and then just stared out the window at the tops of the clouds for the next 2 hours. It should be required reading for anyone in the civilized world. It should be read aloud and continuously on national TV and…
Also you can be certain that what happened to Kayla and All of the conquered (men, women, boys, girls) is much worse than we can possibly know. And it’s a breeding ground for future generations of even more barbarism.
It’s funny/sad that you have to be defensive about simply not finding her funny, lest one of her fans be offended by someone having different taste than them. In our “everyone’s a hater” culture, people really can’t tolerate someone not liking something that they do. It’s like a moral offense. (I am with you in not…
An unsubtle plug of a show starring [literally any member of the female species, or, failing that, a MOC, or failing even that, Jimmy Fallon] that is an NBC/Universal property? No way, I can’t believe I’m seeing this on Gawker Media.
Adopting a persona of “liberal arts educated, art and women’s studies double major” so that you can perform for liberal arts educated, art and women’s studies double majors is the opposite of “subversive.”
thank you
OMG... new mothers.
“He is anxious to take a break and wants to focus on other things.”
I read the post. You have weird feelings about him because of unsubstantiated rumors from anonymous sources. Because that’s all we need nowadays. I was more condemning people’s tendency to want to believe these things , not you specifically. I meant no insult. Gawker is not a reliable source for news though, if you’re…

So is “I could care less,” but that doesn’t make it any less wrong or stupid.
Not going to un-grey the person who doesn’t actually read the post. But I think it was kind of obvious that I was open to finding out if it had been discredited. Some people not only don’t listen but can’t read.
Have some pride in yourself, Lyon!
