Every umpire reading this post was thinking exactly what you said. I think this is probably protestable — although they may not bother for a Rookie League game.
Unless you live in Manhattan that's an extremely high price for that repair. I'd look around. Should be closer to $750-800 (which I realize is still a good chunk of change).
