Now that I’ve had the chance to rewatch 2049 a couple more times, I think it’s time to admit that Villeneuve pretty much pulled off the sequel. So yeah, Deakins is a loss, but I’m actually somewhat hyped to see what he’s going to do with Dune.

Black Panther, on the other hand, is a very popular movie that genuinely deserves a Best Picture nomination.
The use of the fisheye lens really works in The Favourite; presenting the world around the monarch as subtly distorted comes off as a competently expressed visual theme in the film, at least IMO
Big Vegetable and Big Just Go For a Nice Walk don’t have the kind of pockets for that kind of advertising.
I catalog Kanopy records for my library. It truly is amazing what they have.
Holy crap. I just took a peek. That library really is amazing, and it looks like Kanopy has a Roku channel. Nice work, McLevy.
Good for them for supporting libraries and making their films easier to see. Just nobody tell Leslie Knope!
*twitches, struggles to resist urge to comment-*
Yep, I enjoyed it up until the villain was given focus. I think Bill Murray’s in-person cameo is where the film just spirals downhill.
This is basically the same situation I find myself in with The Last Jedi.
I love Mary Reilly (1996), Malkovich is such an interesting Hyde
I don’t see a big studio doing it but the Monsters need to go low-budget, Blumhouse style. Make four smaller $25 million budgeted films with some young hungry talent and no stars except the monsters.
EXACTLY. This was a lousy example for both sides of the misogynist fence to fall on their sword over. I blame the irate Internet douchebags first and foremost who just loathed the thing before ever seeing the final film, but I also throw some blame over on Paul Feig and Co, who quickly latched on to any criticism as…
It didn’t deserve all the hate it got but it didn’t deserve much praise either. There just weren’t enough laughs and a stronger villain would have really helped.
This is more like damning it with faint praise, but I liked it more than Ghostbusters 2. It’s still not very good, but there’s still some things that work, like Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth.
I think the biggest problem is they aimed for a B- instead of an A+.
Sure you can.
Remind people that even if you replaced the cast with men (and got rid of the female-anatomy specific jokes) the movie would STILL suck.
uhhhh isn’t that what Johnny Depp does in every role now
It’s a shame that there’s no way of saying that Ghostbusters is a lazy, sloppy, jumped-up SNL sketch without instantly finding yourself in the trenches of the culture wars alongside Milo Yiannopoulis.
Personally, I’ll take Cary Elwes any day.
