There is nothing to suggest that Darwin had any doubts about his own theory of evolution. This incorrect idea has been floating around for a while, and every reason that people have cooked up has been disproved.

I don't know about the rules for Grand-AM or Continental Tire series, but I know in ALMS the slower class is actually supposed to hold the racing line and it on the faster class to get around and I'd imagine the GA/CTSCS rules are similar.
