Honestly, I suspect the people most complaining about it are those buying the cheapest seats or not checking in on time (which means they’d be stuck in middle seats elsewhere too). Everyone gives Southwest a hard time for their cattle-call boarding, but the system they have in place (until they change it to be like everyone else) is one of the best I’ve experienced.
