I’d wager it’s far more over-stating to the VA than it is under-stating to the FAA. A buddy of mine just retired from the Air Force and was genuinely saddened when even friends and people he respected told him to claim certain things in order to get disability on top of his retirement. 

Is “stolen valor” something that has been coopted (genuinely don’t know). Considering the various horror stories I’ve read and heard about regarding getting care from the VA, it is pretty shitty to claim benefits you don’t need just because you can.

Having not read the original text before, I guess I’m more surprised that there remains a chance of prohibition at all. It seems like there is still a lot of gray area on how “viability” is defined (or more specifically, who determines what “reasonable measures” means)?
