My Child My Choice!

That makes no sense. I mean if you embrace all that Humanism is, well ok then, but don’y appropriate it just because you think the meaning is similar. It’s a philosophy with a centuries old pedigree that deserves more than to be worn as a mantle by people who have become turned off by the word feminism.

I’m in bits over this Humanist thing. Every time I hear it I have this massive squabble with myself where I’m like “well, ok feminism has real issues I guess humanism is some sort of compromise for people trying to deal with the problematics” and then, the majority of my brain is like “DESCARTES, DUDE! THANK YOU! WE

I’ve clung to the word feminist for so long because it has been a political statement. In some ways a radical statement. It’s not that anymore, not really. It is a divisive word though -feminism is exclusionary to a lot of people because of it’s origins. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. With gay marriage

God, I have one friend who goes to parties, gets drunk, and starts screaming at people “ARE YOU A FEMINIST?!?!?”, because “you’re either a feminist or you’re evil.” It’s like a bizarre parody, except for how she’s 100% genuine.

When people say that they aren’t feminists but are instead humanists, it makes me SO CRAZY.

Yeah, that mostly (mostly) sounds like a self esteem issue. I don’t think further shoving them down with a term like “fuckgirl” will help anyone.

What the fuck does humanism have with being feminist? How is you being atheist or non-theist or whatever linked to feminism. Google is your friend. Use it to google big words you use before you use them.

So she doesn’t make a habit of judging whether women are living up to the feminist ideals, uh unless they are fuckgirls? Also, fuckgirls are everywhere and she is too mentally challenged to actually define clearly what a fuckgirl is. Yeah, this is TOTALLY the way I as a feminist would like to be represented. Also,

There are so many words in this article that I don’t understand: fuckboy/girl, thirst, basic. Am I “Old Man Yells At Cloud”?

I was saying this same thing last night. Makes zero sense.

My feelings on WATCHMAN are complex but it boils down to these two points:

She didn’t push to publish anything—anything—after To Kill a Mockingbird.

You are indeed correct.

I see the vast majority of commenters echoing my thoughts on the matter. That’s the only part of this story that isn’t terrible.

UH, wait, is my internet broken, or was there no actual video footage of Harper Lee speaking, just still shots with voice-over, like when you use the Ken Burns effect in iPhoto slideshows?

I hate everything about this.

Yes, this is shady as hell.

The more I obsess over the weirdness of this book release, the more I am convinced that GSAW is truly just a draft of what became TKAM and wasn’t meant or ready to be published and it makes me anxious and rage-y.

Many good things have come from people publishing stuff without the consent of the author. Kafka and Dickinson come to mind. But they were dead when it happens. This feels exploitative and wrong and shady. Trotting her out like this when she’s notoriously media shy doesn’t help.
