The easiest fix is to get LightFlow and use that to control all sounds for the apps. It has a mode to overide silent mode and there is a scheduler to change between normal and silent modes.

Verizon's Jetpack 4620LE made by Novatel is far better....take it from someone who deploys 100's of these as my job. We've never had a problem with this unit or any of Novatel's offerings.

If you only occasionally need the services of a blender, you may be better off with a stick blender. They are cheaper and often easier to clean up. As a gadget freak (seriously, I own an electric tortilla press if that tells you anything) I find I use the stick blender more than my actual blender in most situations.

When creating an account on the web site or through iTunes you can select none, but when you go to sign into the app store on an IOS device and download the free app, it will force you at that point to enter credit card info and none is not an option.
