This may come as a surprise to you, but it’s kind of difficult to get to the Hawaiian islands without flying.

They knew what they had - no tire kickers!

Right, I mean this is really a major failure. I couldn’t believe when I started reading more about the sub and the story that something so simple did not exist.

Text from CBS piece from a while back and Pogue’s interview:

From what I’ve read today - there was no homing beacon onboard for an emergency. The guy from CBS who did a story about these guys earlier this year has been answering questions on Twitter the last couple of days. He said when he was on the ship, the sub was lost for a few hours and when asked about a beacon replied “T

9 hours later and you still need to fix this.  FYI.

I actually clothes-lined a motherfucker one time trying to do that, right when the plane landed. He gave me a dirty look, but that was about it. When I stood up I said “One row at a time, that’s how it works”.
One time some dude tried to rush the aisle and I stood up right when he got to me. He’s like “can I get

All of this:

I’m surprised they haven’t.  I don’t go to La Jolla because it’s a pain in the ass getting in and out of there and it’s crowded with tourists.  But if there are people living in vehicles, I would think that would be the first place they would be kicked out.  That part of the city gets special treatment generally.

59k?

Yea, I read that when it first came out and it sure stuck with me..

I’ve liked certain things, including the latest novel, Joyland and 11/22/63.

I was thinking this, and also Stephen King’s short story from a long time ago called “The Jaunt”. Which is well worth a read.

COTD

Yes

Bizarre.  He could have just said “I know what I have” like everyone else..

The Vega wagon reminds me (and not in a good way) of my first car in 1982 when I was 16. Not my photo, but this was what my car looked like - 1972 Pinto wagon in root beer brown with the fake wood paneling.

I don’t ride on city streets anymore, though I do miss it. I got in an accident when someone opened their door on me on a (I genuinely do not think they did it on purpose, she just didn’t look) and thankfully I was going pretty slow at the time, but I still flew over her door. Most of my injuries were relatively minor

Friend of mine had a car attempt to door him at a light as he coasted up to the light between cars - which is perfectly legal in CA.

Yea, my 5.5 was the 1.8t, but as you noted a really comfortable car.
I went with my A4 sedan (as a CPO) in 2010 as we also had a GTI for when a hatch was necessary. In retrospect, I should have just gotten a newer Passat wagon at the time. FWIW, neither my wife nor myself ever had any real issues at all with the VWs
