His net worth is essentially his stock in Amazon. He doesn’t actually have access to nearly that amount of money. If he were to liquidate his entire position in Amazon it would have drastic effects. 

If the median net worth of the average American household is $97,000,  I’d better get cracking.

There are just so many things here... He doesn’t just have 160 billion dollars sitting in a bank vault for him to swim through. The vast majority of it is in company stock which he keeps in it’s current state to maintain control over the company. Similar to Mark Z of Facebook.
