You don’t need a “legal reason” to subpoena documents; you just need to have a court case. This seems like an odd request from the lawyer and I don’t understand it (I’ve been a paralegal for about 10 years now)

I don’t think it’s that people don’t care. I think that abuse becomes normalized. When people first see it they’re shocked, and they mention it to someone else, and they get told this is just the way it is. And so the cycle continues.

I was just thinking the same thing. Everyone hates and distrusts cops until something like this comes up.

It’s not actually proof, per se. It’s something that the cops claim to have found. This is why we have trials. Otherwise we’d be locking people up left and right based on the cops say so.

Right. We should just start locking people away and throwing away the key without all that pesky trial and evidence nonsense. Because remember, if it’s reported to the media by the police, it MUST BE TRUE. ESPECIALLY when they’re talking about young black men.

No, it doesn’t. With that I agree. But he hasn’t been convicted and has the right under the constitution to bail.

And that’s totally your choice. No one is mandating that you bail anyone out.
