Oh, this’ll be quick. I don’t disagree with any of that. Yup, I don’t blame anyone for despising the American flag, and find that even I dislike a lot of American iconography (“don’t tread on me” being particularly annoying for what it evokes, and the groups that prop it up the most).

But the issue is not that they are the same thing so much as they evoke that meaning. Feels like a strawman to say that people are upset because it is exactly the same thing. They’re close enough that it is weird, and changing it was simple enough to avoid the issue.
