Spinrite will always crash on any drive larger than 500GB, and will not work on GPT Windows partitions. A good alternative is HDD Regenerator. It doesn’t give nearly as much information as Spinrite but it runs much faster and doesn’t care what size drive or what kind of partition you’re running it on.

Spinrite will not work on any drives larger than 500GB (it’ll run, but it always results in a critical error well before the halfway point). It also will not run on GPT Windows partitions (still works with Mac partitions though). For those reasons I usually don’t bother with it unless I have a pretty darn good reason…
