Warning: Unpopular comment coming. I just don’t know what need this thing really answers anymore. I totally understood the enticement of the M5's blend of performance and utility back when the 5 was reasonably small (i.e., e39 and earlier), and thus still reasonably nimble, and when the M5 was “fast” but not “better

I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about it too. My assessment is it depends on your commute, your ability to deal with repairs, etc., but ultimately, from a financial perspective, used-ownership vs. new car (leasing or buying) end up a lot closer in numbers than they initially appear. That said, if you happen

No — the way you knew the owner was lying was “remarkably trouble free and easy to maintain” when discussing a Lotus of any kind of that age. My father in law had a Europa. He said everything was hopelessly complex and weirdly intertwined. If the clock stopped, the last thing you checked was the clock or the wiring —

True.  It is well known that the only way you can really know a car is good if the description includes the words “Ice-cold AC.”

Agreed.  With decal delete.

Think of all the million-dollar (or two-million-dollar) supercars and hypercars this thing can keep up with or straight up outrun. It’s a LaFerrari fighter, a Bugatti chaser, with one fewer zero in the price tag.

That is nice. Same mpg?  (Just say “yes.”)

I

It’s the color. I just realized. I looked at this:

Not that it’s your first worry at this point (your car will be born anew by the time you finish with all of this), but . . . I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that odometer didn’t just get “stuck” on its own.

No. She knows how not to pump her own gas.  Critical distinction.

You’re going to have a lot easier time scoring consistently when you only offer two models than when you’re BMW, which offers, like, 89.

This was fun. After you’ve made your decision, let us know how you like your Macan.

All I’ve ever wanted to be is Hoon of the Day. The only reason I exist on this toilet earth and get up every garbage morning is to send it, and then go back and send it some more.

Bump, set . . . spike!

I don’t know. I’m dubious about the value of a warranty on a car that is probably 75+% likely to end up getting crashed with less than 3k on the odometer.

Any increase in power?

I mean, I knew the comments section was going to be bananas on this one.... but, oh man is this a shit show!

To be clear, this was out of warranty for all cars.  That was why they had the lawsuit.  The settlement dictated that the warranty would be extended to 80k miles.  Hence the issue.
