He ran the ball because he didn’t want to become the next Pete Carroll.

I said the same thing! If you catch the Patriots off guard and throw for a 1st down (or TD) the game is over. If you throw incomplete there is no harm as the clock was gonna stop anyway for the 2:00 warning. I was surprised Doug didn’t call a play action pass there. But otherwise he was damn near perfect.

IMO he also played it safe by running on 2nd down of their final possession. With the clock stopping for the two minute warning no matter what I feel like he should have call his safest pass play to try and get a first down.

Hell, I’d be happy with any one of those three.

By far the best part of the game (other than the Deflatriots losing, of course) was the decision to go for it on 4th down in their own territory late in the game, when a more conventional (read: incurious) HC would’ve punted and ‘put the game in the hands of his defense’ - ie, surrender to fate and shrug his shoulders

You can’t play to not lose, especially in the Super Bowl. Those playcalls were gutsy, ingenious, bold, and they made the difference.

Though I remember yelling at my TV for the Eagles to pass the goddamn ball when they ran it into the line three times on their final possession after the strip-sack.

It’s not the high-waisted jean girl dancing?

Yeah, we thought the same but they clearly showed him talking over with Foles exactly what he wanted to happen, so we were pleasantly surprised that they were actually going to go for it...

He coached an amazing game. In fact there was only 1 play in the entire game that can even be debated...

Some other commenter today made the GREAT point that the Eagles did exactly what other teams didn’t when they had the lead: they didn’t take their foot off the gas. That game was PRIMED for a New England comeback, but Pedersen kept the pressure on, and THAT’S how you win Super Bowls

Not to mention that Belichick also failed in a few key situational football moments, throughout the game. The most cringe-worthy was his decision to kick a FG on 4th-and-1 inside the 10-yard line - as close to a universal “go for it” situation as there might be. The fact that Gostkowski shanked the FG doesn’t do him

He pretty clearly broke Steve McNair, an assertion supported by the breathtaking ability he showed subsequently in breaking or nearly breaking other QBs

Is it just me (probably so) or are they trying to play to both ends of the political spectrum? A rainbow decorated shirt with a camouflage jacket?

The really striking and saddening revelation from last night is the fact Steve McNair may have been the greatest quarterback of all time, but he went to his grave thinking he was a failure thanks to Jeff Fisher

Well, if you take the case to a Jury trial I think he might get 10-15 years in football jail but he may get off with nothing. On the other hand, if you offer him a plea I bet he’d take 7-9.

Before kickoff yesterday, guy walked through the bar with a sign that read, Tom Brady Gives Uncomfortably Long Kisses on the Lips to His Son.

Yeah, but I bet he gives his son bullshit kisses on the cheek.

he takes two chicks home?

So glad he and the rest of the Eagles stiffened up and penetrated the Patriots defense so well...
