I said the same thing! If you catch the Patriots off guard and throw for a 1st down (or TD) the game is over. If you throw incomplete there is no harm as the clock was gonna stop anyway for the 2:00 warning. I was surprised Doug didn’t call a play action pass there. But otherwise he was damn near perfect.

IMO he also played it safe by running on 2nd down of their final possession. With the clock stopping for the two minute warning no matter what I feel like he should have call his safest pass play to try and get a first down.

Hell, I’d be happy with any one of those three.

By far the best part of the game (other than the Deflatriots losing, of course) was the decision to go for it on 4th down in their own territory late in the game, when a more conventional (read: incurious) HC would’ve punted and ‘put the game in the hands of his defense’ - ie, surrender to fate and shrug his shoulders…

You can’t play to not lose, especially in the Super Bowl. Those playcalls were gutsy, ingenious, bold, and they made the difference.
