There's way too many trees of relatively high detail in that gif for it to be a PS1 game. Should have just been a single poorly aliased poster image repeated a few times.

I've seen some side-by-side comparisons where the difference was noticeable, but it's obviously going to depend on the size of your TV and your distance from it. And really, it's not *that* big of a deal.

An 8 player smash on the 3ds screen would almost guarantee every player would be the size of a spec of dust for the majority of the game...
