I'm still pissed at NBC for cancelling "Crime Story" back in '88, after only 2 seasons of that Michael mann-produced cop show.

In the process of climbing up Russian Hill, the transmission in that...thing...must've stunk so bad that it would have set off smoke alarms all over the neighborhood if it stayed in one place very long.

Meanwhile, I'll be "Asleep In The Desert"...here in the tropics.

Yep, that thar critter's a '56 Dodge, not a '57.

Studebaker-Packard, part 2.

Rod Steiger in his Oscar-winning roles as Chief Gillespie in the original (1967) "In The Heat Of The Night."

They should take a cue from a bit on one of the late, great George Carlin's vintage comedy albums ("Occupation: Foole").

Think not only of British Leyland's nationalization/clusterfuck, but also of Studebaker-Packard's back in 1954 (where the smaller, but slightly-financially-healthier bought Studebaker, which was bleeding cash & managing to keep it covered up...for a while...).

Don't forget the Dodge Colt (a re-badged Mitsubishi Lancer) was also in that price range then.

Remember that Elwood Engel was the boss of Chrysler's styling department when the Imperial got its make-over for '64....right after he joined Chrysler from Ford, where he'd been passed over for promotion to the top spot after he & his crew did the '61 Lincoln Continental AND Ford Thunderbird.

You folks can thank my old neighbor, Dave Holls for the styling...IIRC, he did the Manta, 1900 and Opel GT during a short stint at Opel that was between his days at Buick (think Riviera) & later work at Chevrolet Advanced Design.

That Nissan Fairlady will have more steel on it after the race than the "SS Blue Lady" (the former ocean liner-turned-cruise ship SS France/SS Norway) has on it now.

Looks like Lamborghini is going after the upscale cop-car market with this one.

Another reason why you saw so many Darts & Valiants back then was the option package that this one was likely built with.("White Hat Special," even though the top wasn't white—any top color was available with it.)

Wonder if the TG crew took in Billetproof while they were in California? (i'd like to see 'em cover that!)

Take another look at the "idiot drivers"...one of them is a young Diane ("Annie Hall") Keaton.

FWIW, this story was covered by a local radio station here in Tampa during their "Retarded News" segment.
