This is Deadspin. It will never be over.

"It ain't braggin' if you can do it." -Dizzy Dean, 1935 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech

I think you just changed my life.

"Love Actually" the first time should have been your cue to exit stage anywhere.

C'mon man...you're being totally unraisinable.

While I don't dispute that false rape allegations are pretty rare, I don't think that should matter AT ALL in adjudicating — in actual court or the court of public opinion — individual cases like this one. Every set of circumstances is different from every other.

"And it's best if you stay in the foyer. I'm still contagious."

Really good piece Greg. Thank you.

Lose 100 in a year while in the midst of 10 straight losing seasons and then talk us about how many people came to see "terrible" Cardinals teams.

1989: 3.1 m
1990: 2.57 m
1991: 2.44 m

By Cardinals standards, they were terrible. ZING! See what I did there? But seriously, of course they are good, and of course the fact that they are good helps their attendance. But let's look at one particularly shitty year, 1999... they finished 76-86, a full 21.5 games out of first place. Their attendance was

Believe what you like! It won't affect the Cardinal Way.

Follow the thread from the beginning and then you will understand. I said that Cardinal fan support was not, as the commenter alleged, solely dependent on the Cards being good. The facts support my argument.

Okay, I checked. The Cards finished above .500 five times in the 1970s... Exactly .500 once. Zero division titles. Four times they finished in the bottom half of the division. Serious mediocrity. Yet they exceeded the NL average attendance 8 of 10 years.

I will have to check those 70s numbers... They sound wrong. But you are definitely wrong about that World Series "win," which was a loss to the Twins in 1987. Until 2006 the Cards had won only one Series in my lifetime (1982).

1970s, and late '80s-early '90s.

Bullshit. I remember the lean days, and Cards fans still turned out in astronomical numbers. They ARE the best fans. Yeah, even I will admit it's annoying to hear it all the time. But it's true.

Fix It Again, Telander.

Amen to this. The effed-up priorities of the NFL, the sports media, and professional armchair sports dipshits are breathtaking.

We don't have the technology to burn down Rob Ford. Not even at Area 51.
