1) always check condition of ground cable from the battery. Try jumping from neg terminal to engine block near the starter(esp on XJ jeeps!)

Well done: that's a tree I would put in my yard. -just to piss of the that-guy neighbor

The Model T: a mechanical mule. Simple and tough and stubborn as hell. Distracted diving would bite you-hard! You froze or boiled and fighting the wheel would make you ache, as would the ‘suspension’. By God, you learned to be aware of every odd noise or twitch!

Few years ago I listed(with pics) a mercedes 300SD along lines of “No AC, power widows work, decent tires, tired but clean interior, bad paint job,new inspection. Solid motor/trans/running gear”

YES. First time I saw one I stopped dead to drop jaw(nearly yanking daughter’s arm out of shoulder socket as she walked on). They just look to me like what I would design. Sadly, price/availability/problems dictate that I will never own one-or would always regret having bought it

I loved my 87 XT 4-cylinder. Iirc, .29 CD(supposedly better than Porsches of the era), push-button 4wd on top of a joystick shifter! Good hooning fun!

Damn. I obviously picked the wrong decade to give up mind-altering substances: I can’t choose without them.

>>Knew<< it was Speedycop when I saw the headline!

Giant radio telescope. Forget no cell signal: there’s a guy who drives around tracking down >any< stray signals in the area!

I had forgotten...

Put all the GTI aero and grill on a 4-door Rabbit LS. didn’t do the hatch, tho: not willing to do the wiring for the wiper. In my defense, I had already upgraded suspension & brakes, and with the 8v ABA and modified Sirrocco 5-speed, it will be faster than a Mk1 GTI.

Neon...A coworker had ‘some guy’ wire a bunch of that crap into his RX-8. (I had refused the job). SG didn’t bother with fuses: it caught fire one night. Quickly extinguished, it was still driveable for a few days, but he couldn’t get the hood open after the fire. I recused myself from situation knowing I didn’t have

Anytime I get agravated working in a car I remind myself it could always be worse: it could be a boat! Seriously: very limited hold space, water-cooled exhaust manifolds, the extra fresh-water plumbing, all the marine-spec stuff to keep you from blowing up... And the fact that stainless is not magnetic, so you can’t

No Vincent Black Shadows?

Yes! Except the high beams can help you wreck, not just annoy you.

Protip: put lotion on your hands before you wrench(grease comes off easier!), and use GoJo instead of Orange cleaner.

Damn, man! I feel your pain: I’ve been car poor before.

Star for you! I miss my ‘82. The body was rusty cheese at 240k miles, but engine still strong enough to go another 80k in a GL...

Have you driven a Cimmeron? Drove a gf’s back in mid 80s and it sucked! Seriously: my friend’s Citation was better. I thought a (68?) Dart handled better than the Cimmeron and it was only a couple years old then.

Yes! My love for noisy mechanical things was inculcated watching my grandfather’s early Model T shake, shimmy, and pop. Little brass fittings, and copper strips instead of spark plug wires! No wonder I’m attracted to steampunk...
